Sports
Welcome to sport at Wentworth College. Our philosophy emphasises the importance of sport and recreation in developing a well-rounded person. The outstanding Wentworth Sports Centre complex was designed to accommodate this and has been a large part of school life since Wentworth opened its doors in 2003. In 2008 a large, 4 tennis-court size, multi-purpose Astroturf playing surface was installed alongside the Sport Centre. Together these facilities provide a superb all-weather training and playing environment for Wentworh PE classes and sports teams.
Winter Sports Codes
During Terms 2 and 3 each year, Wentworth students take part in various winter team sports competing against students from over 100 secondary schools in the greater Auckland area. The principle body responsible for overseeing these competitions is the NZ Secondary Schools' Sports Council. Both Wentworth and the NZSSSC recognise the value of sport in developing important qualities of character and seek to encourage a lifelong involvement in sport.

Since its inception in 2003, Wentworth has worked with the Country Club to offer Wentworth students (with a qualifying handicap of 10 or under) the opportunity to belong to our Golf Academy through our golf scholarship programme. Golf is also offered to students with higher handicaps who are interesting in competing at inter-school competitions. |

Sailing: Within walking distance of Wentworth is the beautiful Gulf Harbour Marina. Interested students can undertake 'Learn to Sail' programmes as well as enjoy training on the water either at the marina or at one of the many beautiful local beaches. Drawing upon leadership, teamwork and technical skills, students can compete in various adventure races such as the Get2Go challenge. In past years Wentworth students have won the Regional event and qualified for the national finals which are held in December on Gt Barrier Island. Events such as kayaking, orienteering, mountain biking, tramping and rock climbing are incorporated into this exciting sport.
