From the Deputy Principal…

  • China Update:  Members of our cultural tour group in China appear to be having a fantastic time.  Reports from Mr Tong indicate that everyone is in excellent health and that being billetted with families from the Shanghai Far East School has been a real highlight for our students.   When last heard from, most of the students had eaten scorpions and were enjoying the scenery of Guilin (despite the heat). We look forward to hearing all about their travels when they return later this week.
  • Carpark Safety:  I have noticed a few 'close calls' in the school carpark recently and would ask that parents please take particular care when dropping off students to school in the morning or collecting them in the afternoon.  For a short space of the time, the school carpark becomes very action-filled and your assistance with low driving speeds and extra vigilance would be most appreciated.
  • Year 7 and 8 examinations:  Best wishes to our Year 7 and 8 students with their end of year examinations this week.

Matakana & Waitoki Friends of Wentworth meetings ...

Meetings are being held next week at both Matakana and Waitoki, commencing at 7:00pm (nibbles provided, wine bar open).   All parents are warmly invited to attend - please feel free to bring any interested neighbours along with you to these very informal but informative evenings.
Matakana: Tuesday, 15th November in the foyer of the Matakana Picture Theatre complex
Waitoki: Thursday, 17th November at DD's Country Cafe, next to the Waitoki Hall

Sports / Team Photos...

Sports and team photos taken by Photolife Studios during Term 3 are now available for viewing in the Staff Lunchroom windows, with order envelopes available from the Student Support Office.  Orders must be submitted by the end of this week to ensure photos are printed and available for distribution to students before the last day of term (6th December).   Please note that because of space limitations, sports and other team photos will not be printed in this year's Yearbook, so parents wanting a team photo should order one now.

Sports Coaching at Wentworth ...

We are very fortunate at Wentworth to have a number of school parents and other adults who kindly give up their time to help coach and manage our student sports teams.  Without these volunteers many sports would simply cease to operate. Across the entire country, rates of adult coaches and volunteers are declining and this is obviously something we would like to avoid at Wentworth. To combat this, one of the initiatives of Sport & Recreation NZ (SPARC) is coaching seminars. The first of these features Wellington Pheonix and All Whites Coach, Ricki Herbert. This is open to any adult or person interested in coaching younger students. A flyer with more information is attached to this week's e-newsletter email. If you think you may be interested in attending this free seminar, please contact either myself ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. DanceSport...

This Thursday all Year 7 and 8 students will be taking part in DanceSport at the North Shore Events Centre.  A final reminder from Mrs Devane for students to remember to bring all their special clothing items (dancing shoes, etc), lunch and drinks, and for those students who have chosen to use school transport to be sure to be at school by 8:30am.  (The mini-vans will wait until the school buses arrive before departing for the event.)  Students have been taking lessons all year in preparation for this competition and we wish them all the best for a fun and successful day.   If parents have any last minute questions or concerns, please contact Mrs Devane at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
